It may not be your cup of tea, but it is not a scam. 

Scams try to take your money by over-promising and under-delivering. Or by flat out lying about what you will get after you pay money. 

In contrast...

I offer a $1 trial for the PrayMore emails so you can "try before you buy" - and only pay after you are convinced that what you will get is more than worth what you will pay. 

Also on that note...

If you get through the $1 trial and decide what you got wasn't worth the $1... please tell me, and I'll gladly refund you the $1.

Fair question. 

At least four reasons: 

(1) I want to eventually transition from being a freelance copywriter... to working on PrayMore full time. That will require money. Because I have a wife. And a belly, that cries out for things occasionally. And asking for a monthly subscription fee seems like the best way to get that money from this work.

(2) If people pay for these emails, it will allow me to spread the word about this project faster. Because I will have money I can advertise with. Which would be great. Seeing as I would like for a lot of people to hear about PrayMore.

(3) You will be more likely to read these emails if you pay for them. Because they will cost you something. This isn't the main reason why I'm charging for the PrayMore emails... but it's true, and worth noting.

(4) I would love to one day be able to pay more people to help me with this project. Support staff. Online "community organizers," who can moderate Facebook groups and forums, etc. Spiritual directors and inner healing coaches, who can help people address the deeper spiritual blocks that "clog" their prayer. But paying people will require money. And so I am asking the people who sign up for these emails to pay a membership fee.

There is a fancy answer, and a not-so-fancy answer. 

The fancy answer: I have studied persuasive psychology in-depth, since by trade I'm an ad copywriter. From my line of work I have come to understand what stirs the heart and imagination to WANT something - and I bring this understanding to bear on the emails I write for PrayMore. All the 'magical touches' I add to emails which make people want to join $10,000/yr mastermind programs, enough to shell out the money and go for it... I also pour into these PrayMore emails, to make you want to pray more. 

The not-so-fancy answer: I tell stories about prayer from my life and the lives of others. Stories that cast a vision for a praying life... and help you see that prayer really can - and really will - change everything for you, if you choose to do it. It will change your mental and physical health, your profession, your sense of purpose, and your satisfaction with life. The only question is - and I will present you with this question at the end of most emails: will you choose to do it or not?

I don't. 

I do resist calling it a "Newsletter" though. 

Mainly because...

Newsletters are designed to inform you. 
PrayMore is designed to persuade you.
 
Newsletters are designed to give you ideas.
PrayMore is designed to give you desires. 

That is why I resist calling PrayMore a "newsletter" - even though it is in the same format as a newsletter.
